A Wave Called Me

( by Nick Mancuso )

i rode a wave named
eternity
a wave that had no name
to which i fixed a life
called me

and rode it just the same

it took me out to endless shores
by sparkling islands of the sea
while mystic music softly played

& accompanied me

my dear companions were the winds
that swirled about my tiny boat
and at night the burning stars

were the mirror of the sea.

i rode a wave called eternity
and never saw the land
dreamed of distant harbours

that would receive me

dreamed of cities by the shore
that glittered in the nights
filled with human voice
and light

enemies of the night

but my ancient boat
neíer stopped not for
land nor human warmth

for the lure of eternity

kept me distant from the sand

and so i rode from wave to wave
with the night sky my only friend
and the stars and moon above
without beginning
& without end.
